Rangers enforcer Derek Boogaard died from accidental mix of alcohol and painkillers
Derek Boogaard (r.) plays only 22 games with the Rangers after suffering a concussion.
Boogaard was found dead at the age of 28 by family members in his Minneapolis apartment last Friday. His funeral is scheduled for today in Regina, Saskatchewan.
Known as the best fighter in the NHL in his six-year career, Boogaard played 22 games for the Rangers after signing a four-year, $6.5 million deal last July. His debut season with the Blueshirts ended with a concussion suffered in a fight with Ottawa’s Matt Carkner on Dec. 9.
